Decoding EAN-8 and EAN-13 barcodes on various food and non-food products with CodeMAX
Barcodes on supermarket items are often surrounded by graphics, logos and the like, which can easily fool an image-based barcode reader, and result in false barcode detections which is inconvenient and negatively affects the detection rate.
Decoding the barcodes found on supermarket items can also be difficult, as these are often printed directly on the wrapping of the item which can be made of a deformable and shiny material like plastic. This can cause the barcodes to be distorted and partly obscured which would normally make them unreadable.
To demonstrate how well our CodeMAX technology performs when decoding barcodes on such items, we collected a set of images of different food and non-food items with a typical smartphone and ran them through our CodeMAX barcode decoder. You can see the outstanding result in the image gallery below.
